Summary update...

I haven't updated in a while. June has been a pretty busy month. You can see from a couple of posts below.
Cindy, Mom and I got back from Vegas on June 1 and it's been kind of non-stop all month. I'll hit the hi-lites.
Computer Club Meeting - June 4
This was the final meeting of the season. We are off until school starts back up in September. Everything turned out well. And I'm glad to have a break.

Tom Petty at Nissan Pavilion - June 8
This was a really good show. The only thing was that Teri didn't go because it was too hot (like 95 deg). After having such a cool May, June kicked on like a furnace. The place was PACKED! And Steve Winwood opened! It turned out a few folks at work went to this show, I passed out copies of it, and everyone was that much more happy.

Rush in Philly - June 14
This could have been better. The band was good, just the crowd just wasn't a Rush crowd. First off, it was indoors, thus, the reason I saw them in Philly. The entire upper deck was un- sold. This was kind of odd. And the people at the show didn't seem to be into it very much. Oh well, Heather and I made the most of it anyway.

Orioles Game - June 19
My friend George (from work), Chris, Teri, Rebbecca and I all went for a fine evening outing. This was Rebecca's first baseball game! And I think she was amazed by the whole experience. It was a little loud for her, but she handled it fine.

Pearl Jam - June 22
And as you can see from the posts below, Pearl Jam at the Verizon Center in DC. Great show, place was packed and the band really appreciated it.

There are more details that I am leaving out, but these are the major highlights.

Summer’s Here and the time is right…

Well it’s not here yet, but a few bands have announced tours and I got tickets. It seems June is filling in. Tom Petty on Sunday, 6/8 at the Nissan Pavilion in Virginia, then the following Saturday, 6/14, Rush in Philly, followed by Pearl Jam in DC on 6/22. I’ll probably take in the Springsteen show in Charlottesville, VA on 4/30. I think the Donk got us some tickets to see the Black Crows in August; the Virgin Fest will take place again in August. Maybe a Bruce show or two. Got to take in an O’s game or two, and probably want to get down the Nats at their new ballpark. The summer is filling up!

First summer concert...RUSH!!!

Tonight was the first of many concerts of the summer, RUSH!! They were great! Attached are a few pictures of the band and you can see where I sat from one of them. Chris, Paul and I went. Kind of a guys night out. Chirs wasn't the biggest Rush fan, but he got in cheap and had a good time.
I usually don't buy the swag, but tonight I did. I bought a polo-type collared shirt, and a jacket that is pretty cool! The setlist is below. This is probably the most unusual Rush show that I have been to in recent memory. While they did songs from the older catalog, these are really deep tracks from various albums. But it made for an interesting show. Some of the 'old' fans wanted to hear '2112' and didn't know that they did 'Summertime Blues' on their latest cover album, I like the changes. Here is the setlist, you judge for yourself. You will probably have to go to you Rush catalog to figure out exactly where the songs came from.
Limelight
Digital Man
Entre Nous
Mission
Freewill
The Main Monkey Business
The Larger Bowl
Secret Touch
Circumstances
Between The Wheels
Dreamline
Far Cry
Workin' Them Angels
Armor And Sword
Spindrift
The Way The Wind Blows
Subdivisions
Natural Science
Witch Hunt
Malignant
Narcissism
Drum Solo
Hope
Summertime Blues
The Spirit Of Radio
Tom Sawyer (Before the song played there was a hilarious South Park short, I hope to find it soon, but it was to die for!)
One Little Victory
A Passage to Bangkok
YYZ

Paul and I sat together and knew the setlist. We left in the middle of YYZ to beat the traffic. It worked out phenomenal! We were home in an hour. It's not surprising to normally wait an hour to get off the lot if you plan poorly. Anyway, Chris meet us back at the mini-van. When I got in he handed me $10 and said, "I sold your opening night show to some guy." Cool! I have it sitting on the computer at home. Let's find a couple dozen other folk to sell this stuff too.

That's enough for now. But so far so good with the concerts this summer!

Concerts for the Summer of 2007

It's time to start getting back out there and hit some shows. There isn't any HUGE band that I MUST see, but the summer is starting to fill up. In order of appearance:

June 23: RUSH at the Nissan Pavilion. The Donk got tickets and Chris wants to hop on the ride down to the show with us. Chris will probably end up with better tickets and pay well under face.

As I labeled this in an e-mail: GEEZ-FEST!
Yes, finally the Geezer show that you have been waiting for! These bands wouldn’t sell out a state fair alone, but they will be all together for one BIG NIGHT! Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the

Baltimore Arena (1st Mariner Arena, Civic Center, whatever you want to call it) get down with JACK-FM as the ‘JACK-Fest’ comes to Baltimore! It's JACK FEST-- featuring ZZ TOP...REO SPEEDWAGON...THE PRETENDERS...and THE STRAY CATS!

Assuming I recover from the Geez-Fest, the next day it is off to Wilmington, DE for the opening night of the Counting Crows show on July 22.

If it was just the Counting Crows, I wouldn't go through much trouble, but this is a 3 band lineup. Along with the Crows, Live and Collective Soul will also be on the bill. I will actually take in a couple more Crows shows on this tour. On August 14 and 15 they will be playing a couple of other minor league ball parks in Aberdeen and Frederick, MD. This should also be interesting too since I will probably train it to the shows right after work.

Last September, I bought tickets and had all intentions of going to the Virgin Fest show. Unfortunately, my appendix gave out earlier in the week and I didn't make it. But this year, I am on for the August 4 show.

Austin City Limits Music Festival - I really want to go to this show. I probably won't pick up tickets until I get there (or shortly before) and I will need to get things straight with stuff at work. But of all of the show, this is the one that I would like to see the most!

New Rush CD!

Rush (the band) has a new CD coming out! Check out the website, http://www.rush.com/
The new song, Far Cry, sounds decent. But maybe they shouldn't choose a song title that has the name of a popular game that many of their fans may have played.
This is the CD cover. I'll probably see them this summer when I can. Go to their website to hear the single.
